Taste of Lockhart Cultures
The annual Taste of Lockhart Cultures is held on the Saturday closest to September 15 from 11am-3pm in conjunction with Diez y Seis. This event is designed to move people around town and in and out of the area businesses. Participating businesses choose a culture to celebrate, decorate their store in that theme, and provide a special dish from that culture for visitors to their business to sample. Along with fabulous food from many different cultures, there are tours of the courthouse, a car show, live music, and fun.
Each year 20 participating businesses around the Central Historical District along with a few from outside the downtown area provide food for visitors. The community and visitors to Lockhart are encouraged to pick up a Passport and "travel" throughout the participating businesses getting their Passport stamped. You will also have the opportunity to vote on your favorite culture represented by a participating business. The business that receives the most votes will win a traveling trophy. Visitors to the Taste of Lockhart Cultures are eligible for prizes by getting their passport stamped by 12 of the 20 participating businesses.
Passports with the list of participating businesses along with a map are available at the Lockhart Chamber of Commerce and the Dr. Eugene Clark Library prior to the event and at participating businesses on the Saturday of the event. Passports must be turned in to the Pocket Park on Mail Street by 3:15pm. Prizes awarded after the passports are counted.
