In the beginning…

First National Bank of Lockhart Organized April 16, 1889. This building is still standing on the south side of the Square in Lockhart.

The first bank to be organized in Lockhart was the First National Bank of Lockhart. James G. Burleson, brother of Albert Sidney Burleson, Post Master General and Cabinet Member under Woodrow Wilson, opened it April 15, 1889. The names Storey, Thompson, Jolley, and Green were on its Board of Directors. All these men played a great part in developing Caldwell County. In 1909 The First National of Lockhart was reorganized and E.B. Coopwood was made President. In 1920 W.B. Swearingen was elected President and Mr. Coopwood became Chairman of the Board.


Lockhart National Bank Organized May 10, 1900
This building is still standing on the north side of the Square in Lockhart.

In 1900 John T. Storey organized The Lockhart National Bank. On the Board of Directors were John T. Storey, George W. Wilson and M. O. Flowers. This bank was in existence 34 years until it merged with the First National Bank of Lockhart.

 


Lockhart State Bank Organized 1910
This building was located where First-Lockhart National Bank is now located.

In 1910, the Lockhart State Bank was organized, with C.E. Jones as its President and its assets were taken over by First National Bank in 1928.

In 1960, the Bank was remodeled and the façade was modified to look as it does today.



First-Lockhart National Bank Organized January 15, 1934
The building stands where Lockhart State Bank stood originally.
It was remodeled in 1960.

On January 15, 1934 the First National Bank and the Lockhart National Bank merged forming the present First-Lockhart National Bank. John Storey was the President for 18 months and then W. B. Swearingen became President and served four years until his death in December 1938.At that time E.B.Coopwood became president(1938-1943) followed by W.M. Cabaniss(1943-1966), G.G. Moore (1966-1969),Conrad C. Ohlendorf(1969-1997)and Melvin H. Johnson, Jr. (1997- 2008) and J. Roland Velvin (2008-present).
